2009 ALL-OCDA HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ CHORUS
GENERAL INFORMATION
Who
.. High School Students in grades 10, 11 and 12.
What
.. Honor jazz chorus made up of 16 to 24 singers performing in conjunction with the All-OCDA Womens and Junior High Choruses. Membership in ACDA/OCDA is required by all participating directors.
Where
.. .Auditions at First Baptist Church, Mustang, 928 N. Mustang Rd.. Directions to church:
From I 40: Exit Mustang Road (a few miles west of OKC). Head South about 5 miles - there will be a light at 15th and then another one at 59th St. Continue on Mustang Road through 59th, get into the left lane. The church will be on your left in about 1/4 to 1/2 mile.
From I 240 Westbound: Exit Airport road - it turns into Hwy 152. Hwy 152 comes straight into Mustang. Take it to Mustang Road (there will be a Walgreen's, CVS, Arby's and Ace Hardware on the corners). Turn right (North) on Mustang Road. The church will be on your right in about 1/4 to 1/2 mile.
Rehearsals at Cox Business Solutions Center. Festival hotels are The Renaissance Hotel and Courtyard Marriot, OKC. Performance site will be First Church of the Nazarene, Bethany (one block west of Southern Nazarene University).

.. Entries postmarked by Wednesday, October 1, 2008 ($10.00 per student). Late entries postmarked by Wednesday, October 8, 2008 ($20.00 per student). Entries postmarked after Wednesday, October 8, 2008 will be charged an additional $100.00 penalty fee. Auditions on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.
Convention is January 15-17, 2009. Registration begins at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 15 in the lobby of the convention center. The second audition begins after registration with the first rehearsal beginning at 7:30 PM. Performance on January 17, 2008.

Fees..
Entries postmarked by Wednesday, October 1, 2008 - $10.00 per student. Late entries postmarked by Wednesday, October 8, 2008 - $20.00 per student. Entries postmarked after Wednesday, October 8, 2008 will be charged an additional $100.00 penalty fee. $55.00 registration fee to cover cost of a t-shirt, clinician fee, and rehearsal facility PLUS the cost of the remainder of the music and rehearsal CD for the students selected to be in the jazz chorus.

The cut: Everyone should sing their respective parts from the beginning through the first part of measure 73. At the pickup to measure 74, all voices should take the Solo line AS WRITTEN (versus ad lib.) in the appropriate octave and perform it to measure 91.
We decided to have everyone sing the solo on measures 74-91 as written so that the judges can compare "apples to apples" so to speak, and see if they are getting the notes and rhythms of the scat solo. Then, on the optional scat they can impress with their creativity!
Notes for audition music
.. (1) The demo is the audition cut. There is no listening room. On audition form, please enter as Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass but include what part student would sing if chosen for the jazz chorus in order to cover the divisi of parts in the remaining music. (2) The optional 12 bar blues in F will only be sung through one time. Instruct students to listen to the chord changes.
