Founded in 1959, the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a nonprofit music-education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music's position in American society.

ACDA membership consists of choral directors who represent more than one million singers across the United States. ACDA members teach choral music in public and private schools - kindergarten through senior high school - and at the college and university levels. They conduct a variety of choral groups, including boychoirs, children's choirs, men's and women's choruses, junior and senior high school choirs, college and university choruses, ethnic choirs, vocal-jazz ensembles, and symphony choruses. They also conduct choirs in their communities and in their places of worship.

Residents of Oklahoma who join ACDA, also become members of the Oklahoma Association of ACDA, known as the Oklahoma Choral Directors Association (OCDA). If you are interested in membership, simply print and complete the
ACDA Membership Form and follow its mailing instructions. All members receive copies of the Choral Journal (the monthly national magazine), Common Times (Southwestern Division newsletter, published three times a year) and Sooner Style (Oklahoma's newsletter, published three times a year).

NEW to the website!
Hopefully you've notice a new "button" along the left side of this page.  Entitled "Forum", this is a new web-based site for OCDA discussion.  As an entire membership, we only see each other once a year at the summer convention.  It's hard to keep everyone informed in this manner, so along with Sooner Style, mailings, and emails from the Board, this Forum will allow us an opportunity to hear from you, the OCDA membership.  Check the Forum regularly to keep up with any news or thoughts from your colleagues.  Don't forget, a Forum is not just for "gripes" or criticism, but for positive ideas and re-affirmation of the good things that are happening.
Presently we have started four threads of discussion to get your thoughts.  They include discussion on our OCDA honor choruses, our OCDA constitution, and our summer convention.  We hope you will appreciate this opportunity to voice your ideas and support for OCDA!
